SHAPING LONDON’S FUTURE WORKPLACES

A Day in the life of Tom Rakewell

The project seeks to stimulate discussion based on how office culture will evolve over the next 10 years. Rather than idealise future workspace, the narrative provides us with a satirical view of what life might be like for a 37-year-old working in London 2025, struggling to come to terms with the rapid changes in technology. The story, and imagery, was inspired by William Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress, which is often considered an early form of storyboard. Though the working world seems leaner, more agile and less hierarchical, it is not without imperfection. Tom Rakewell finds himself in familiar surroundings facing a rather less familiar way of working.

The project was featured in the NLA WRK exhibition.
